Susie and John came to NY to see me off. This morning they gave me a really cool shirt that says "Around the World in 99 days" on the front, and lists all of my destinations on the back (covered up here by my backpack :-).
So we had breakfast at a little French bistro in the neighborhood, and headed to the airport.
Upon arrival at the airport, we learned that the American Airlines flight to Los Angeles, the first flight of my trip, enroute to Honolulu, had been CANCELLED!! NOW WHAT!? Well, luckily, we were early, as the car service picked us up early. Plus, when I had booked my flight in December, I had 'bit the bullet' and booked a business class ticket! And that decision already paid off! I was the only person in the first class aisle (compared to the 300 people in coach who would need a new flight).
The agent was more stressed out than me, so I remained calm and just let her do her thing. She had difficulty changing the ticket because of the number of segments included in my ticket (seems they need to figure that one out). But after several calls, including one to the airline's RTW desk (which number I provided to her), she finally figured it out, and got me a seat on a 3:00 Delta flight, which still arrives in LA in time to connect to my Honolulu flight!
So, I am currently on that Delta flight, hooked up to the airline's wifi network, so hello from somewhere between NYC and LA.
